About FARA

Friedreich's Ataxia (FA) is a debilitating neuro-muscular disease that is caused by a lack of energy production that our cells need for proper function and survival. Over time, FA robs individuals of muscle coordination eventually leading to life altering loss of mobility, energy, speech, and hearing. FA also presents serious risk of diabetes and life shortening cardiac disease. USF Ataxia Research Center has partnered with FARA to aggressively advance research into the causes, treatment and ultimate eradication of this devastating condition.

FARA's vision is to cure Friedreich's Ataxia. In just ten years, we have advanced into the treatment era in which we are fostering the development of the most promising discoveries to slow, stop and reverse the damage of this disease. Our research is also providing insight into curing other neurodegenerative diseases that share common mechanisms, such as energy deprivation.

We rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses to optimize our momentum and count on you to become a ball sponsor, a participant or to donate a quality item to the success of the auction at the "FARA Energy Ball". Your contribution will speed scientific research by supporting the critical clinical trials that will lead to treatments, and ultimately, a cure.
