Meet People with FA

Alex
Alex and Chris

My name is Alexandria Bode, but most people call me Alex. I am 22 years old. I am a senior at Southern Connecticut State University working towards a degree in Social Work. I am not sure of my plan yet, but I intend to further my education and work towards my Master’s Degree. At the time of my diagnosis, I was 7 years old, because I was so young, I did not know what to expect and, therefore, I was very nervous for what was to come. Throughout my whole life, I have had many difficulties, such as High School, College, finding a job, etc. The way I grew up, my mother and father taught me that in order to achieve your dreams, you need to overcome all the obstacles that you have.

One thing that I know was the most difficult for me was watching friends come and go through your life and not be able to understand why. Growing up with all these problems was very hard to do and the one thing that really helped me through it was having that one best friend that I knew I could always depend on. During my whole disease process, I had a lot of friends walk in and out of my life. Certain friends I lost, just like my abilities, but as I think back, one friend has stayed true. Not only was he a help to me in elementary school, middle school and beyond but he is still just as compassionate and caring now as he was the very first day I met him. I attribute any success I have to his undying friendship. As I move forward in this unchartered journey, I may not know what the future holds but I do know one thing for sure. Whether the days ahead are good or bad, I have Chris who will always stand by me.
