“The sun is up, the sky is blue. It’s beautiful and so are you”. These are the lyrics to one of my favorite Beatles songs as well as the logo for this event. These lyrics came to life at the 4th Annual 5K Race for Christina! Even though it started to rain first thing in the morning, the skies opened up and the sun came out making this year’s race the best year yet! Over two hundred people participated and over $18,700 was raised for FA research and my family couldn’t be more grateful!
The 5K Race is held every year in beautiful Tyler State Park in Bucks County, PA on Mother’s Day. My family figured what a perfect way to gather family, friends and loved ones together to support a great cause. This year we had FAmily come as far as Rhode Island and Vermont!
The race started out with the key speaker from FARA and Ride Ataxia, Kyle Bryant and myself giving a speech on how thankful the FA community is for our generous supporters who attend grassroots events. FARA has raised over $1 million last year alone in grassroots and because of this success, there are active clinical trials and studies ongoing for treatments. Then the race proceeded with my sister and I cheering on people crossing the finish line, giving out carnations to the women being it was Mother’s Day. The race also featured great silent auction prizes.
As always, the race left my family and I full of hope and love. It touches our hearts to see so many people come out and support myself as well as FAmily. We are grateful for those who either donated and/or came to the race to walk, run or roll for a cure for Friedreich’s Ataxia.
Thank you to my family for making this event possible every year. My sister, mom and dad work their hardest, preparing all year long to put on this beautiful event to raise awareness and funds for Friedreich’s Ataxia and to put a smile on my face. They have such great success because it’s such a great event that people look forward to every year!
Save the date for May 14, 2017! Together we will CURE FA!
