Being someone with FA, I should be, but never am prepared for the support and caring I feel from everyone at a FARA fundraiser. The Flatbread’s Pizza kickoff to the Race for Matt and Grace in Providence, RI last week was no exception.
My husband, Dave, and I get in the car to pick up our friends, Erin and her aunt Maureen. I don’t know how, but we are late half the time…I call it FA time (even though other folks I know with FA are always on time, I like to blame it on FA). So we are twenty minutes late (or not late for FA time). Of course Erin and Maureen were very gracious about our tardiness. Erin may have FA, but FA time is not one of her symptoms.
An hour or so later, we were in downtown Providence. We got a little turned around; luckily Brown’s campus is lovely, because we got a mini-tour. We made it to Flatbread’s and the place was packed with people who were all supporting FARA by eating delicious pizza and drinking good beer. Supporting FARA couldn’t be easier!!! The supportive and kind energy was all around.
My friend Matt was there. My friend Gracey wasn’t, but her cousins represented her well. Every fall the DiIorio’s (Matt’s family) and the Hopkins (Grace’s family) have an awesome 5k and post road race party. They’ve had four in which they and their supporters raised $90,000 for FARA. The fifth annual race and post party is 9/20 this year. I hope you can come!! They raised $2,500 for FARA at Flatbread’s last week. I’d say … good food, good drink, good cause = awesome kick-off.
