McAlister's and Freddy's Give Back

GiveBackNightsChristin“Charitea” Night at McAlister’s Deli, Broken Arrow, OK

Tuesday, January 5, 2016 was a pleasant, winter evening to enjoy soups, sandwiches, salads, or a loaded baked potato, along with McAlister’s refreshing ice tea. McAlister’s Deli is a regional favorite, and a popular eating destination in Broken Arrow, and that evening, McAlister’s gave back 10% of the evening sales. FARA received $309. I then applied that money to my rideATAXIA team

I counted over 200 participants at the McAlister's "Charitea”. Restaurant nights are fun, uncomplicated ways to raise funds. Finding a restaurant willing to participate might seem a daunting task. I sent nine query letters in the mail. I received a favorable response from one, via email. I then made the requested online application, and subsequently communicated with the deli’s marketing team via email. McAlister's was easy to work with on my end. I would recommend them to anyone who is fundraising, and I will choose them again.

Everyone eats, right? So, why not turn that activity into a fundraiser for FARA?

I hosted two restaurant nights to kickstart fundraising for rideATAXIA. The first one was at Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers in October. The second was at McAlister's Deli in January.

GiveBackNightsAndreaTo start, I sent a message to a few of my favorite places via Facebook. I simply asked if they had Give Back nights for charities. Freddy's wrote right back and gave me the email address for the corporate office. I wrote and explained what FA was and what the money would be used for (research). I was approved, we picked a date (give back nights are usually held on weeknights), and Freddy's sent me a flyer to promote the event.

I saw a sign at McAlister's advertising fundraising nights. Then Christin told me that she had contacted them about a Give Back night and they were wonderful to work with. She told me the website so I applied online.

Both nights were so much fun! Life is busy, so my friends and I don't get to hang out all the time like we used to. This was the perfect chance for us to get together, catch up, and raise awareness and funds for FA research!

Freddy's donated 15% of the bill for everyone that mentioned the fundraiser. They ended up donating $117. McAlister's donated 10% of the bill for everyone that came in that night. They ended up donating $283. Both nights equaled $400, which is much appreciated. But imagine what the total would be if everyone with FA held a fun and easy restaurant night!
