FARAFARA Cure FA

Summer FUNdraising in RI

Summer in Rhode Island means sunny beach days, sailing across the bay, and indulging in fresh seafood. For the local FA community, summer also brings a sampling of great fundraisers to bring everyone together and support FARA-funded research efforts.

With anticipation for the annual 5K in September heating up, we kicked our butts in shape during an evening Bootcamp Benefit at Perfectly Fit. Matt and Jen made sure everyone gave 110% to prepare for race time! The group endured the workout and enjoyed some laughs along the way. Several weeks later, it was time to put the weight back on … with deep dish pizza at UNOs! For the entire day, FARA supporters dining at UNOs got a delicious meal with a portion of proceeds donated to FARA. The restaurant was full for dinnertime and we were full on our way out – Grace and Matt closed down the restaurant with their families, making sure no pizza went to waste. Eating and fundraising always work well together … which is why the next week was so successful at b.good burgers! During the dinner rush, a portion of sales were again donated to FARA. With locally-sourced ingredients, the burgers were delicious and the company was even better. With so much support, it wasn’t the most FA-friendly crowd to maneuver in, but the FA-friendly faces and smiles made it the best place to be in RI that night (according to Vinny, Matt, Jen and me).

All these gatherings were pre-events leading up to the main fundraising 5K on September 26th. Led by a strong Kick-off Bash in June, raising $3,000 for FARA (see my previous post on this!), the three events throughout July added nearly $1,500 to the cause. That’s nearly $4,500 for FARA before the main event! My only regret is that I didn’t order a double cheeseburger at b.good and push us over the $4,500 mark (I splurged on a fresh fruit smoothie instead). In all seriousness – I am having a blast with the FAmily here in RI and extremely proud of the hard work that family and friends put in to make these events successful and fun!

Did you miss out on these events? Don’t worry, there’s A LOT more planned! This Friday, July 31st, the Funny 4 Funds comedy group is putting on a show in support of FARA. For more information or questions, contact myself of Mike Crawley at mcrawley@lgcd.com. Tickets are going fast so get yours now before there are none left at the door on Friday! Check out the Race for Matt & Grace line-up for other events including Pinkberry and Chipotle sponsored nights in August. Also, visit the official race website HERE – if you’re local, register and enjoy the day with us. If you’re not local, start making travel plans – we have an awesome day planned and want everyone to be a part of it!

The FARA Ambassador Program

The FARA Ambassadors are a united team of patient volunteers living with FA who are committed to supporting FARA in the search for a treatment and cure.

Together we seek to know more about FA, and FARA so we can be prepared to represent the community when the opportunity arises; speaking at events, to volunteers, potential donors, scientific groups, pharma partners, media interviews and other awareness and fundraising opportunities. We believe support is key to continued success toward our ultimate goal of treatment and a cure. Participants in the FARA Ambassador Program are passionate about building and upholding relationships within the FA community.

The FARA Ambassadors are positive, supportive, peer representatives for the FA community, actively raising awareness and funds for FARA. To learn more about the FARA Ambassador Program or to have a FARA Ambassador speak at your event, please contact: info@cureFA.org.
