Meet People with FA

Bridget
Bridget

Bridget is studying Elementary Education at Elon University in North Carolina.

From her college essay:

"...Finding out that I had Friedreich’s Ataxia meant little to me. Sure, my mom explained all the mitochondria and iron overload information to me, but what does that mean to a fourth grader? It is still hard to understand now. This portion of my life — from that summer when I was seven to the diagnosis when I was nine — changed me, my family, and my friends in more ways than we may ever know. In obvious ways, FA has made me worse, but in more discreet ways I am better... For the most part I have real trust in the friends who don’t treat me like I am different. There are moments in my life where I forget I am not the same as the rest because of those who treat me that way. Those are the best moments in my life."

Bridget uses a Segway for mobility. Check out www.segway.com to see how this "human transporter" works.
