Kiela & Family
Meet B.J., and see how she organized a "Cardio Jam" to help FARA continue it's important work.
Hi, my name is B.J. I am part of the Aerobic Team here at Rolling Hills Club. My husband, Jean-Luc, and I have three beautiful daughters — Kiela, 11, Kirsten, 8, and Lucie, 2. This keeps us quite busy. We have been members of RHC for three years and cherish the nurturing environment as well as the support of the staff and fellow members.
Kiela was recently diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia, which is a rare, genetic, neurodegenerative, multi-system, life-shortening disorder. About one in 50,000 people in the United States have it. The onset of symptoms is usually between the ages of 5 and 15, sometimes even earlier and sometimes significantly later.
RHC generously donated the Group Exercise Room along with the Entertainment Center for a fundraiser to help us in the fight to find a cure or treatment for this rare disorder. The proceeds went to FARA (Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance), a non-profit charitable organization headquartered in the Washington, D.C. area. FARA is dedicated to accelerating research leading to treatment or cures for Friedreich's Ataxia and the related sporadic Ataxias.
The event occurred from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. There were a variety of classes to choose from ranging from "You Go Girl" Step, "Pedal to the Medal" Spin, High Intensity "Kick It Out' Cardio Kickboxing, and wrap it up with "Get Down" Pilates Mat.
Our family would like to thank all of you for helping us in our fight! Dreams can come true and you can help to make that happen.
