Rocky Mountain Bird & Birdie

FARA was selected as the recipient charity for the Bird & Birdie Clay Shoot and Golf Tournament this year in Denver, Colorado on September 26. The tournament is an annual event where the participants spend the morning shooting at Colorado Clays Shooting Range, eating steak for lunch and then off to the Buffalo Run Golf Club for 18 holes of Golf. Altogether, the event netted over $35,000 for FARA.

My daughter, Anna Gordon, was diagnosed with FA two years. We live in West Virginia and have never traveled any further west than La Grange, IN to FA Woodstock. My nephew, Doug McCrady lives in Colorado and has enjoyed participating in the tournament for several years. Last year, he went to the event coordinator, Tammy Anderson, and asked her if FARA could be charity selected the following year. We found our this spring that FARA was indeed selected, so Anna & I started making plans to go.

We were greeted with open arms by the people of Colorado. Doug picked us up at the airport and took us to meet the bubbly Tammy Anderson, who doesn’t shake hands, she hugs. We felt like we had known her our whole lives. The next day, Anna and I got to spend time with fellow FAers, Kyle Bryant & Harley Sheppard and her mom Christy Sheppard. Everyone worked hard telling our story of what FA is and how close we are to a CURE. There were 150 golfers and gunmen and although they appeared tough, they had HUGE hearts and wanted to help.

The next day, Kyle checked out Mount Evans for a future ride. Anna & I visited Estes Park and experienced the Rocky Mountains for the first time. What a great trip!!
