Geoffrey FoxName: Geoffrey J Fox

Where do you call home? Northern Michigan

What is your relationship status? I am a single guy with no children. I live alone with my dog, but my mom and stepdad live a couple houses over when I need help.

What's a typical day for you? My days are about creation. I have an undeniable urge to create. I guess the simple answer would be I spend my days writing stories, poetry or scoring songs.

How long have you known you are living with FA? I was diagnosed in 1997, 21 years ago when in college. Most of my counterparts were excited about their lives beginning and it felt like my life was ending. It was a very confusing time.

Geoffrey Fox 2Are there any others with FA in your family? My sister and I are the only two in my family with FA.

Describe your transition from walking to walker/wheelchair: I was 23 when I started using a walker. I transitioned to a wheelchair in my 30's.

What do you like to do to stay active and what type of exercises work for you to stay strong? I lift weights and ride a recumbent bike in my home gym. I have a pull-up bar in my office, and basic PT helps me maintain my body.

Do you have any hobbies or special interests? My hobbies include writing, reading, playing Xbox, chess, and playing the guitar.

What is a good trick to make daily life easier? I don't know if this is a trick, but when you don't worry about what others think it makes everything better.

When FA gets you down, what do you think/do to feel better? When FA gets me down I'll talk to others with FA online.

Geoffrey Fox 3What is one way living with FA has POSITIVELY affected your life? Cliché alert! The one way FA has been positive in my life is the avalanche of friends I was hit with when I joined the community.

What is a favorite motivational quote of yours? Never give up

What is the best advice YOU could give to a person who has been newly diagnosed with FA? Always let your voice be heard and also remember, there is more than one way to do anything. ;)

What is the first thing you want to do when a cure/treatment to FA is found? When a cure happens I will truly believe in God.

Tell us more about yourself. It was when I was five years old that I began writing stories. I still remember the first story I wrote and the feeling of possibility it held; the story was about a boy who rode his turtle into war. I have tons of stories, poetry, and music I've written around my house. I published 2 poetry books (Any Day Now, Tomorrow's Never Today), and two Science- fiction novels (The Doors of Redemption, Return to Redemption). I recently signed a contract for my fifth book to be released in the spring of 2019. The title of that novel is (Crazy), and I am well at work on the sequel,
(Crazier). Three years ago I began playing guitar and became pretty good. As the days went by it became harder to play chords. As of today, I can play, only super slow. At any rate, I downloaded an app to score my own songs. Thus I can still create music! That's the thing with FA, you'll figure out a way to do things if you never give up.
