BrettName: Brett Davis

Age: 38

Where do you call home? Fayetteville, NC

Education degree(s): Associates degree in computer programming

Who do you live with? I live by myself.

What's a typical day for you? I try to exercise somehow every day. I like to play a little chess with the FA friends and take care of myself.

How long have you known you are living with FA? I was clinically diagnosed when I was 12, so 26 years ago. It wasn't confirmed in a test until I was 15.

Are there any others with FA in your family? No

Describe your transition from walking to walker/wheelchair: I made it through high school walking. When I started college, I used a chair to get around campus.

What do you like to do to stay active and what type of exercises work for you to stay strong? I do what I call "stand up, sit down," and I have two parallel bars going down the hallway. I do 60 to 75 semi-squats every other day, which has really benefited my legs. I also add in a half an hour on a handcycle most days. It works wonders for my upper body.

Brett Collage 2What is a good trick to make daily life easier? I am open to suggestions on this. Haha.

When FA gets you down, what do you think/do to feel better? Watch old movies that remind me of better times.

What is one way living with FA has POSITIVELY affected your life? I have more understanding.

What is a favorite motivational quote of yours? I watch all kinds of inspirational movies, but I don't have a specific quote that I come back to. I think true motivation is an emotional response to something different for everyone.

What is the best advice YOU could give to a person who has been newly diagnosed with FA? Make the best of every experience you get to have, enjoy the moment.

What is the first thing you want to do when a cure/treatment to FA is found? I would like to see some ex girlfriends. Show them what they missed out on. Ha ha ha. I would like to learn how to play the guitar.

"I have FA, but FA doesn't have me." What does this statement mean to you? That would be someone that has had a successful Life in their mind, is content, and happy with their life.
