Shammaz Name: Shammaz

Age: 28

Where do you call home? Kerala, India

How long have you known you are living with FA? It was my friends who pointed out that I have poor balance. FA slowly restricted me from driving a car and riding a bike. This happened at the age of 20.

Are there others in your family with FA? No.

What do you like to do to stay active and what type of exercises work for you to stay strong? Weight lifting helps a lot. I do many helpful exercises such as: bridging variation, tall kneeling, and yoga too (to be exact cat to cow pose).

What is a good trick to make daily life easier? A good way to make life easier is a daily workout. Workouts help me to stay active.

Shammaz When FA gets you down, what do you think/do to feel better? When I feel down, I just listen to motivational speeches.

What is one way living with FA has POSITIVELY affected your life? I have a memory about how FA positively affected my life. Even though I don't like sympathy, I used to get more relaxation breaks at work than other co-workers.

What is the best advice YOU could give to a person who has been newly diagnosed with FA? My advice to a newly diagnosed person is don’t worry or feel desperate. We only live once, so enjoy each and every moment… and don't skip exercises.

"I have FA but FA doesn't have me." What does this statement mean to you? How do you live your life in the face of adversity? FA made me stronger than I was before. I did not sit and cry at home. I stood and faced the difficulties. I travelled from country to country and found a job. Now, I earn for myself.
