Meet Donna Littell

Name:  Donna Littell

Age: 67

Where do you call home? Coatesville, PA

Who do you live with? My husband, 2 cats, and 1 dog

What are some of your interests or hobbies? Reading, learning, TV

What is your education? AA in Computer Science, some college towards BA in Computer Science, but did not finish

When were you first diagnosed with FA?  I was 29 I believe.

What are some life hacks that you use daily to make life easier living with FA? I could not function without my super poles by the bed and toilet. I have a ROHO mattress topper that alleviates discomfort with pressure points. I have a roll-in shower and a sink area I can drive my wheelchair under.  Regular PT and OT helps a lot.

What has living with FA taught you?  FA has taught me to be strong and never give up. I have done a lot in my life despite FA.

When FA gets you down, what makes you feel better?  Being grateful for what I have and what I can still do.

What advice would you give to someone who has been newly diagnosed? To focus on the present and not worry about the things that haven’t happened. Everyone’s journey is unique. Gain support by joining FB FA groups, find a support group, visit curefa.org.

What are some things that you are struggling with now that you haven’t in the past? I worry about getting older and not being as independent as I am now. I try to take my own advice and not worry about it.

What is one way living with FA has positively changed your life? I have met some incredible, inspiring people that I wouldn’t have without FA. I am a more compassionate person and help others with what I can.

I have FA, but FA doesn’t have me. What does that statement mean to you? I have lived a life without letting FA or anyone telling me NO.

What is a favorite inspirational Quote you remember? “It always seems impossible until its done” – Nelson Mandela
