Where do you call home? I currently live in the Phoenix, Arizona area, but Oklahoma City is where I grew up and call home.
What is your education? Master of Science in Engineering Physics

What’s a typical day for you? Work, stretch, and rest.
When and how were you diagnosed with FA? I was 32 years old when I was diagnosed through genetic testing from a blood sample.
Are there any others with FA in your family? No
Describe your transition from walking independently to using a mobility aid. Eight months ago, I fell and tore a ligament in my foot which led to me using a walker. Before then, I would occasionally use a cane.
What do you like to do to stay active and what type of exercises work for you to stay strong? Yoga, stretching, standing balance exercises, body weight lifting, and resistance band training.
Do you have any hobbies or special interests? Dancing, playing guitar, and listening to music.
What is a good trick to make daily life easier? It helps to be open about the limitations you have to others that you’re often around.
When FA gets you down, what do you think/do to feel better? Write down those thoughts, then read them back to yourself.
What is one way living with FA has POSITIVELY affected your life? I appreciate the good memories and my two older brothers.
What is a favorite motivational quote of yours? You can give up tomorrow.
What is a piece of advice that someone with FA has given you that encourages and inspires you? Keep moving/stay active.
What is the best advice YOU could give to a person who has been newly diagnosed with FA? Struggle and contend. Find meaning/purpose. Continue to struggle and contend.
What is the first thing you want to do when a cure/treatment for FA is found? Take a walk.
“I have FA but FA doesn’t have me”. What does this statement mean to you? Honestly, I don’t know.
How do you live your life in the face of adversity? I try to do what I can, even though it’s a struggle.
Tell us a little more about you… I can still laugh and have fun.
What do you wish the general public understood about FA or disabilities? Doors are hard to open.
Has FA had an influence on your work? If so, in what way? I’ve tried to become more active with others with disabilities.
Are there any modifications that have made it easier for you to work in your job? Flexible hours/not having to do the standard 8-5 work schedule.
What is your favorite part of your education or work/career? Getting tasks accomplished.
How long have you had your hobby/special interest? Why is it important to you? I’ve enjoyed music and science ever since I was a kid. I understand some music theory, and it honestly reminds me of physics.
What is your favorite movie? Collateral
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Sweden. I have no idea why, it just seems like a nice place.
