CHANNAHON — Emily Young, a senior this fall at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School, and her family and friends will be participating in the second annual Midwestern Ride Ataxia bike ride, scheduled for Sunday, July 21, in Channahon.
Young was diagnosed five years ago with Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA), a debilitating, life-shortening, degenerative neuro-muscular disorder. Young will be riding the 12-mile route.
The first Ride Ataxia event to be held in the Midwest was last July. There were 10 FA-affected families involved last year with over 230 bikers participating, and $60,000 was raised for FA research.
The Youngs are hoping to have 300 registrants this year.
